The man was sentenced to 92 years in prison for a series of violent crimes in South Florida.
De André Smith, 23, was sentenced Thursday by a Fort Lauderdale judge after a jury found him guilty on eight federal charges in July.
According to court records, Smith beat an IT specialist with a firearm last December. Soon the victim’s eye was amputated. Eight days later, authorities say Smith robbed a car at gunpoint in Fort Lauderdale and then drove to nearby Davy, where he robbed two restaurants. Surveillance video captured by local news agencies shows a masked man jumping over a counter and pointing a firearm at employees, then fleeing with cash.
Smith was sentenced to 1,105 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release.
