DAYTONA BEACH, Florida. Authorities released television footage showing a bizarre incident in which a naked man was stunned and taken into custody at a Florida airport, after which he allegedly claimed that a bomb had been planted in the bathroom.
Video footage shows several officers searching for a man in the baggage claim area at Daytona Beach International Airport just after 6 a.m. local time on Friday. The suspect jumped onto the baggage claim carousel and the police ordered him to lie down on the ground.
After the man disobeyed and the police repeatedly warned him, he was suppressed with an electric shock.
In the video, a man can be heard telling the officers that he took Molly’s drug.
At a press conference after the incident, Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said the suspect later told MPs that there was a bomb in the building, saying, “We have to get out of here, the bomb will go off. planted a bomb in the bathroom. The video that was leaked did not have the sound of this alleged comment.
Investigators found a wall in the women’s toilet under construction, which appears to have been dug in. A group of sappers reacted and found a bag with the suspect’s clothes, but no traces of explosives.
Chitwood identified the suspect as 25-year-old John T. Greenwood, “a frequent flyer [who is] well known to Daytona Beach law enforcement.” Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an officer in 2007 and filed seven charges of robbing his car and home. According to Chitwood, Greenwood has undergone forced psychiatric screening twice under the Baker Act.
Greenwood, who was hospitalized in the aftermath of the incident, was charged with burglary, false reporting of planting a bomb, criminal injury, resisting arrest, and exposure of genitals.
According to airport spokesman Jay Cassens, about 225 passengers were temporarily moved during searches of the airport, which reopened on the same day.
