A Florida man who was recorded on New Years Eve, beaten by a McDonald’s employee after grabbing her through a straw, was sentenced to prison last week.
Daniel Willis Taylor, 40, pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and was sentenced to 60 days in prison by a Pinellas County judge, the Tampa Bay Times reported. He has already served 58 of 60 days.
A New Year’s viral video showed Taylor yelling at a checkout employee after he couldn’t find a straw. Then he reached across the counter and grabbed her in anger. In response, she hit him on the head several times while he was holding onto her collar.
The customer saw how events unfolded just before the attack. Brenda Biandudi told Buzzfeed that Taylor went to the place where the straws were usually kept, and when he saw they were gone, he started yelling at the staff. Then it became physical.
VIRAL McDONALD’S BATTLE BETWEEN EMPLOYEE AND CUSTOMER STARTS OVER STRAW, WITNESS CLAIM
The reason for the lack of straws in the seasoning bar? A new environmental protection ordinance, which took effect Jan. 1, makes straws available only on request, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Even though the attack unfolded on New Year’s Eve and the law went into effect on January 1, it looks like the restaurant has begun preparing for the new rules a day earlier.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, Taylor will undergo a psychological assessment and be forced to pay $ 1,000 in fines or 120 hours of community service. He is ordered to stay away from the restaurant and the two women who were involved in the attack.
Yasmine James, the 20-year-old employee he grabbed, reached out to the WFTS back in January.

“I was not in control of my body when he grabbed me. Like I’m scared, like you’re grabbing me, I just didn’t understand his intentions. Despite the fact that we had a verbal conversation, I don’t think he could have grabbed me, ”she said.
According to the arrest report, Taylor kicked another employee, Tateona Bell, as he was escorted out of McDonald’s, but this was not captured on camera.
