July 18 Florida Man, 71, Shoots at Alleged Robbers at Internet Cafe

July 18, 2012 – Two teenagers were injured by a 71-year-old man from central Florida who refused to stand aside when the youths allegedly tried to rob an Internet cafe.

Samuel Williams was sitting at the Palms Internet Café in Ocala, Florida on Friday night when two men, later identified as Davis G. Dawkins, 19, and Dwayne Henderson, also 19, allegedly stormed, brandishing a pistol and a baseball bat.

“Don’t move [cursing],” one of the teenagers reportedly shouted to the café patrons.

Surveillance footage released by the police department shows Williams, sitting at a computer in the corner of the cafe, standing up and pulling out a .380 pistol shortly after two men apparently stormed into the cafe. and swing the bat at something off-screen.

Williams is seen firing two shots at Henderson, who is quickly heading for the front door. The 71-year-old man begins shooting at both young men, who appear to fall in panic as they flee the scene.

According to Ocala.com, Dawkins and Henderson were arrested hours later. They were charged with attempted armed robbery with the use of firearms and a criminal offense.

Officials said it was unlikely that Williams would be charged with assaulting the teenagers because the shooting seemed justified.

“Based on what I’ve seen and what I know so far, I’m not going to press charges,” Bill Gladson of the state attorney’s office told Ocala.com.

Williams has permission to hide weapons for his pistol, according to the sheriff.

Gladson, who said he reviewed the security footage, added that he is still awaiting a final report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Dawkins was released from prison on Sunday after posting a $ 11,000 bond. Henderson remained in the Marion County Jail after failing to post a $ 31,000 bond.
