MIAMI. A South Florida man was charged with first-degree murder after authorities said he shot someone during an argument over a dog defecating in a yard.
A grand jury indicted Omar Rodriguez on Wednesday after Miami-Dade police said he shot Jose Rey twice for allegedly allowing his dog to defecate on Rodriguez’s son’s lawn. Rey died of his injuries late last month.
Rodriguez’s lawyer, Alan Ross, says Ray started an argument and followed Rodriguez with a knife.
The Miami Herald (http://tinyurl.com/o2d3pq4) reports that the shooting was the culmination of years of harassment, threats and false accusations by Rodriguez against various residents. Rodriguez was arrested several times, but never served a serious prison sentence.
Since 2008, neighbors have filed over 140 complaints with the police against Rodriguez. Rodriguez also filed numerous handwritten lawsuits against neighbors and police.
