ᐉᐉᐉJanuary 10 Florida Man working on helicopter hit by main

BROOKSVILLE, Florida – Authorities say a man was wounded in the head by rotor blades and killed while working on a helicopter at a Florida airport.

The WFTS reports that the incident took place near hangars in the Brooksville-Tampa Bay area.

County Sheriff Hernando Al Nienhuis says his department was called to the airport at 3:30 pm. where the officers quickly learned about the death.

In a press release from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, 62-year-old Salvatore Disi died on Thursday afternoon near hangars at Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport.

The two men were using the cart to launch the helicopter when, for some unknown reason, the helicopter suddenly jerked and then crashed, officials said. The sheriff said in a statement that as a result of the movement of the rotor blades, Deasy was hit in the head, killing him instantly.

Nienhuis said at a press conference that there was no sign of rough play. He says his office has been in contact with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
