August 25 Florida Man Faces Prison For Sending Threatening

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A Florida resident pleaded guilty in federal court in Miami on Wednesday to sending a threatening message regarding the murder of Jews.

Federal authorities announced that 26-year-old Hanson Richard Larkin of DeLand faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison. Officials say Larkin met the man online in 2017 and over time the two became friends through text messages, phones, etc., and various social media platforms.

During the two years leading up to August 25, 2019, Larkin told the man several times about his hatred of Jews.

Authorities reported on August 24, 2019 that Larkin flew into Miami from DeLand. Once in Miami, Larkin sent him a series of threatening text messages:

(a) “… I bought a pistol with my first salary. If I do not meet with you, I will have to use it. ”
b) “I told you how much I hate Jews, right?”
c) “If meeting with me for five seconds is not worth the lives of several Jews, I have no other choice.”
(d) “Chabad is next to me. And Amtrak has no weapon protection. Don’t make me make choices they’ll regret. ”
(e) “Okay, then we meet, but there are no dead Jews?”

The Miami man contacted law enforcement, and Larkin was eventually arrested upon returning to DeLand.

Federal investigators detained Larkin at his workplace on August 27.
